Sometimes the transformation of one young life sparks a ripple effect that reaches far beyond what anyone could imagine. Mahlatse’s story is one of those powerful ones. What began as a single encounter with God at a Sinani Camp has gone on to impact dozens of other young lives.

In 2019, Mahlatse was invited to attend our very first Sinani Youth Camp. When asked how that camp impacted his life, he shared that it completely changed his perspective and shaped the way he sees the world. At camp he gave his life to Jesus and was baptized.

After returning home, teachers and classmates began noticing a big change in him. He became more disciplined and focused, and his performance at school drastically improved. But the transformation did not stop with him. Mahlatse began speaking to other boys at school, encouraging them to to set goals for their lives and live with discipline. He spoke openly about the dangers of bad friendships and drugs. The boys listened. Slowly, lives began to change. Even those known as troublemakers started turning their lives around. Many accepted Jesus and began focusing on their futures. What started with a few conversations grew into something much bigger, eventually impacting more than 40 boys who themselves began encouraging others as well.

After finishing school, Mahlatse went on to study theology and leadership, as well as disaster management. For a short time he also worked as a teacher, using that platform to continue sharing his story and encouraging young people to make positive choices. Even today he still helps some of those learners.

Since January 2026, Mahlatse has been part of the Sinani team. He declined a promising, well paid opportunity in Cape Town in order to stay and serve the most vulnerable in his community. After volunteering with us for some time, we are delighted to now welcome him as a member of Team Sinani.

Mahlatse is a living testimony of what can happen when one young person encounters God and chooses to follow Him. One life changed can lead to many more being transformed.
