Meet David*, a 13-year-old boy from Mpumalanga.
David lives alone in a small one-room house, while his step-grandfather stays nearby. There is a history of addiction in his family, and life has not been easy for him. Yet recently, a positive change has begun to take shape in his life.
When David first came to our Life Centre, his behavior was often challenging. But the careworkers soon realized that what he really needed was care, attention, and a sense of belonging. They began giving him small responsibilities like collecting water, washing dishes, and cleaning the pots after meals.
He has embraced these tasks with joy and pride. Now, David loves spending time at the centre and is usually the last one to leave, helping the careworkers tidy up at the end of each day.
He is also part of the Sinani Arts Academy, where he plays the marimbas and enjoys learning new dance styles. Through these moments, David has discovered purpose, community, and love.
Today, he is not just a boy who helps with chores but also a young man growing in confidence, hope, and belonging.
