Our story starts in a small house in a busy township near Mbombela, where a family of 12 lives. The home is shared by a grandma, a mum, a few uncles, and many children. The children are cousins, some of whom have lost their parents and have come into their grandmother’s care. Life is not easy and work opportunities have been scarce. Food is limited, and the space they live in is very small for such a large family.

For the past 4 years, a few of the children have been part of one of our centers. Allow us to share two children’s stories with you.

Among the children is Simphiwe, a young girl who once carried deep anger and confusion. After losing her parents, she struggled to understand why God would allow such pain. When she first came to the centre, she found it difficult to connect with others and would often act out.

Today, Simphiwe is a different child. She has learned how to communicate, her anger has softened, and she now builds friendships with those around her. She has discovered a love for chess and regularly takes part in tournaments. Her talent is clear, and there is hope that one day it will open a door for her to receive a scholarship.

Another child from this family, Anna’s story is one of quiet healing. After her father left the family, she began to withdraw and isolate herself. Feelings of rejection weighed heavily on her. But through the love and support she received at the centre, Anna slowly began to open up again.

Today, she is part of the Sinani Netball Team and her confidence is growing beautifully. She enjoys helping younger children by reading stories to them, and she warmly welcomes visitors, often helping to translate. In her, we see the heart of a future youth leader.

Beyond practical support like meals, clothing, and essential items, these children have found something deeper at Sinani. They have found stability, love and a place where they are known.

Through home visits, careworkers continue to walk alongside the family, praying with them and bringing the hope of the Gospel into their home. While challenges like poverty and addiction are still present, there is a growing sense of hope. We believe that the love of God can reach even the darkest places and bring transformation.

Through sport, after school activities, and daily connection, these children are growing in confidence and learning that they are not alone.

Their story is still being written, but it is already a story of resilience, healing, and hope.
