Baking Blessings Through the Storm. Ivy’s story.

Ivy is a vibrant, energetic, loving, and full of life 62 year old retired lady with a deep passion for serving others.

Her motivation for supporting Sinani comes from a place of gratitude. She believes that we have so much to be thankful for and are incredibly blessed. Ivy lives by the truth that when we put our faith and trust in God, He will take care of us. To her, children are the future, and it is our responsibility to care for them and give a helping hand wherever we can.

Ivy was introduced to Sinani through her ladies cell group at CU Nelspruit, and from that moment, she felt drawn to be involved. Year after year, she joyfully supports Sinani by baking large amounts of cupcakes for the children’s Christmas parties. When asked why she does this so faithfully, Ivy explains that generosity and giving your time are essential ways to serve your community. She believes Christians are called to be salty, to keep their fire burning, and to live as fruitful trees that bless others.

Last year Ivy was diagnosed with cancer. During that season, she felt so unwell that she had to take a sabbatical from all her church activities. Yet, even behind the scenes, she continued to serve. Despite her illness, she baked an enormous number of cupcakes for the Sinani children’s Christmas parties, choosing generosity even in suffering.

When asked what she would say to someone who wants to get involved but is unsure where to start, Ivy’s answer is simple and heartfelt. Start at your local church, your workplace, or within your community. Just get involved and give of yourself freely. You will experience the joy of giving.

A scripture that continues to encourage her is

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”

Proverbs 16:3

Ivy is a powerful example of how, even in the midst of sickness and suffering, a person can still be a tremendous blessing to those in need.
