he care workers of Chisomo Community Based Organisation (CBO) continue to be a bright light in their community of Maonde, as they serve the most vulnerable children in very personal ways. Several care workers have brought children into their homes, caring for them as their own. These acts of sacrifice and compassion are having a deep impact and influence in the community. On their own initiative, and using their own resources and labour, the care workers constructed a temporary shelter at the care point, allowing the children to sit and eat, sheltered from the rain and sun. It is hoped that this temporary structure will be replaced by a permanent, more secure building in due course.
Maonde is a remote and rural community, where there are very few opportunities for employment. Farming is difficult due to unfertile soil, as well as difficult weather conditions.
Sinani’s involvement with Chisomo CBO is unique in that it partners with Hands at Work, who has a full time team that supports Chisomo on a daily basis. Church Unlimited, through the Sinani channel, helps support this community based organization financially, and also conducts an annual visit to encourage the care workers and the community.
