Volunteer Story – Mariëtte & Drikus

Mariëtte and her husband, Drikus, along with their four children, Salomé (11), Ludwig (9), Zieg (7), and Richter (5), have made Mbombela their home. Drikus’s upbringing in Hazyview brought him to Mbombela during his Grade 9 year, where he crossed paths with Mariëtte at Hoërskool Nelspruit. Their connection deepened in 2010 and before marrying in 2011, searching for a home church, they visited CU Mbombela. They felt a warm embrace and a sense of welcome, leading them to choose it as their home church.

Their journey took an altruistic turn when they encountered Sinani. Despite the demands of raising four kids in six years, and their involvement taking a backseat for a season, Drikus felt compelled to engage more actively with Sinani as a family in 2023. In January, Mariëtte and her children began serving at the Granite Hill Life Centre. The impact on their lives has been profound. Witnessing the harsh reality of poverty opened their eyes and softened their hearts. They have been humbled and have gained a deeper appreciation for the blessings in their lives. They’ve wholeheartedly embraced a passion for missions and hope to inspire others to do the same. Mariëtte encourages everyone to engage in outreach at least once a year, trusting the Lord to guide their unique family journey.

“It’s truly been a blessing for our entire family. Our love for the people and children at the centre has been transformative, and as we give of our time, we discover that true blessings lie in generosity.”
